Bacchus describes both a grape varietal and the Greek god of Wine, festivals and the celebration.  A virtual ‘carnival’ of flavours and aromas for the palate to enjoy in this wonderful white wine.

The Bacchus is a white wine grape that was created by viticulturalist Peter Morio at the Geilweilerhof Institute for Grape Breeding in the Palatinate in 1933, using a Silvaner x Riesling cross with Müller-Thurgau.  Grown in the vineyards of Ashby Point here in the Shuswap, these cool-climate grapes have developed a uniquely wonderful flavour, and we offer them to you to show off their “celebratory” character.

With a name originating in Roman mythology as the deity for wine, Bacchus is exuberant , offering a harmonious tartness with hints of vanilla, pear, and spices. Enjoy its unique character on its own for social get-togethers, with pastas, and even with desserts.

Awards in 2017 for Bacchus, include a Silver medals at the 2017 Cascadia Wine Competition and 2017 NorthWest Wine Summit and Best of Category at the 2017 Northwest Wine Summit.

The aromatic white grape, Kerner (pronounced “KEHR-nuhr), is the result of efforts at a plant breeding station in Germany, in 1929, between Trollinger and Riesling varietals.  Ripening in early October, it is capable of being grown in less favourable conditions and, in particular, in cool-climate applications.

Classic Kerner fruity flavours with aromas of floral, marzipan, green apples, and pears.  Complex, with a Riesling edge. Pairs well with pasta with cream or clam sauce, spicy food, and beautiful with pork tenderloin and lamb.

Recent awards for Kerner, include Silver from the 2017 Savour NW Wine Competition, as well as the Judges’ Pick at the Sip Northwest Best of the Northwest Competition.

VQA describes this wine as Fruity, Apricot, Peach, Apple, Pear, Gooseberry, Tropical, Good, clean fruit finish.

This grape, developed in Germany (pronounced “ort-TAY-guh”), is a cross of Müller-Thurgau and Siegerrebe. It major advantage is its ability to mature readily to adequate to high sugar levels early and in less than ideal growing conditions. For this reason, the variety has become a staple to wineries on Vancouver Island an in the most northerly extensions of the Okanagan Valley and, of course, the Shuswap where Recline Ridge Winery is located.

The somewhat exotic flavours of the wine — including apricots — make it both a good apéritif and a favourite with Asian foods.

A Gold medal winner at the 2017 Northwest Wine Summit and 2017 Cascadia Wine Competition, AND a Double-Gold winner at the 2017 Savour N.W. Wine competition, as well as Judges’ Pick at Savour NW Best of the Northwest, and Best of Category and winner of the Jerry Mead Award for Best Value wine at the 2017 Northwest Wine Summit, this is the clear favourite!!!

We refer to this as the “S” wine.  It may be difficult to pronounce (“zee-geh-RAY-buh), but it’s not difficult to see why this is an extremely popular cool-climate white wine.  Siegerrebe is the result of German varietal breeding, from Gewurztraminer and Madeline Angevine stock.  Ripening in early to mid-September, this white varietal exhibits a unique rust/bronze colour on the vines.  With the green foliage in the vineyard, and Mount Tappen and intense blue sky in the distance, and the ribbon of Siegerrebe on the vines, this is a picture worth a thousand words.  Taste it on the vine, and it is just like the finished wine!!

Intense flavours and good balance.  Aromas of Tropical Fruit, Apricot, Peach, Pineapple and Honey.  This wine has an extremely long finish, and pairs well with Seafood, Cheeses, and Bold dishes such as Curry.   Makes a fantastic patio sipper, as well.

This wine has received numerous awards, including Double Gold at the 2017 Savour NW Wine Competition, Gold at the 2017 Best of B.C. WIne Awards, and also the 2017 NW Wine Summit Competition.
